Growing a Citizens NetworkThe three of us - Ken Dahlberg, Jim Bingen, and Kami Pothukuchi - have long been persuaded that Michigan's food and farming systems need significant restructuring to make them healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable. In writing The Albion Statement we sought to develop and present an integrated vision of the value, political, and policy changes that are needed to pursue these goals and structural changes.These needed reforms will require a revitalization of democracy that is intertwined with the development of more self-reliant state, regional, and local food and farming economies. The state and county level reforms and policy changes involved will require a number of food literate and politically active food citizens and groups to pursue what we sense is becoming an increasingly shared vision. This web site - which we hope will become a kind of virtual think tank - is dedicated to providing food citizens and food citizens' groups with a range of useful conceptual and practical tools and resources in their - and our - efforts at growing a citizens network to pursue genuine reform.
